PRP is a treatment that consists of extracting a small sample of blood from the patient and centrifuging it to obtain platelets that contain tissue growth factors. These growth factors are then applied through superficial microinjections into the skin. It is a natural method that uses a blood derivative, exclusive and specific to each patient, which stimulates the production of collagen, elastin, and epidermal tissue, which translates into firmer, brighter, and better quality skin.
What benefits does it bring?
Platelet-rich plasma works by increasing the thickness of the most superficial layer of the skin, improving the appearance of wrinkles, scars, and stretch marks. In addition, it stimulates skin cells and reorganizes collagen and elastin fibers.
In this way, it helps to improve flaccidity, counteracts free radical damage to the skin, and reduces the effects of chronic sun damage and the effects of aging, improving the skin’s appearance in general.
At the capillary level, it helps to increase the thickness of the hair. In addition, changes occur in the growth cycle, causing the hair to grow, which is why it becomes a safe complementary treatment for alopecia.
Which zones can be treated?
It can be applied to any skin area on the face and body, as well as the scalp.
Its indications are skin rejuvenation, hair loss, treatment of stretch marks and scars, and skin flaccidity. It is also used as a complementary treatment after other rejuvenation treatments, to accelerate and improve the healing and recovery process of the skin.
What does the treatment consist of?
The application of platelet-rich plasma is a simple procedure: a minimum amount of blood is extracted from the patient, which is centrifuged at predetermined revolutions per minute. This generates that the elements of the blood are fragmented and the fraction that is needed can be isolated. The isolated plasma can then be injected into the areas to be treated. There are different protocols for application and repetition of sessions depending on the indication. It is not toxic or generates allergies since it is a product obtained from the patient himself.
How long does the procedure take?
Platelet Rich Plasma sessions last between 60-90 minutes. In general, 3 sessions with intervals of one month are required to achieve optimal results. For maintenance, a session every 6 months is recommended.
When will I notice the results?
The effects appear over the days and increase as they go by. The effect is a maximum of 20-30 days after treatment. After performing the three initial sessions, the result lasts approximately 1 year, at which time a maintenance session will be necessary.
Do you have any contraindications?
It is a very safe treatment since the blood used is extracted from the patient himself. It is therefore a simple and outpatient procedure that should always be applied by medical professionals.
It is not recommended in pregnancy, lactation, a history of poor healing (keloids, hypertrophic scar), anticoagulated patients, patients with infection or active inflammation of the skin to be treated, and in patients with a history of systemic diseases (immunosuppression, poorly controlled diabetes, cancer, scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematosus).
